Gems, Friarhood, and Duck Boys; Big League Education

So it has been a productive week.. ive made three wine glasses, finished my Chargers tumbler, started my Indians ballcap, met some interesting people, and watched some new shows. Im winding down now because school is right around the corner. Id be lying if I said I wasnt a bit nervous about starting at a new school. I mean, yes ive been at community college for 3 1/2 years so the “college experience” is nothing new to me. But I feel like its alot different at a university. The stakes are higher, the curriculum is more intense, and the opportunities are much more wide open.

One thing I can try to compare it to is the difference between minor leagues and big leagues. Community college is like single A.. you go through the motions, get your shit done, get your associates degree and youve been promoted to double A or triple A, but once you get your 4 year acceptance, its like getting called up. Your first day is like your first at bat. Once your up, its a crowd of thousands of people that you dont know. The thoights going through your head are rediculous things like, “dont be awkward,” “dont screw up,” “dont trip and fall on your face”.. im not in any way trying to compare myself to a professional ball player, but the nerves are similar. Needless to say, im pretty pumped on getting back to normal, and for me, that is being in school and on a schedule. The time off from it has been nice, and ive bide my time with work and other things but im ready for structure.

So in other stories, i came across this awesome organization a few days ago. Its called the Friarhood. Ive had several friends who have talked about it before, and ive seen the logo on shirts they wear to the ballgame. The company promotes fandom in  Padres ballclub support. They organize events, write columns, and keep everyone updated on everything Padres related. What a perfect name huh? Steve, the founder, sent me a very nice message after seeing some of my bedazzled goodies, asking me some information about bedazzling and my opinion and thoughts about adding some sparkle to their women’s clothing.. i was beyond flattered! And I must say, what a nice guy! And what a great organization!! I totally support any company that promotes family values, quality reporting, and of course baseball. So a very humbling encounter with an awesome person!

I also saw a couple new shows this week, and welcomed back an old favorite. The two new ones were the Vineyard, which is basically an east coast version of Laguna Beach. I enjoyed it though! Its always entertaining to watch wealthy people in reality shows live out a scripted life. I can dig it! The other was  called The Shed. Down home bbq joint with a really cute family. Definitly a good watch. And of course, my fave Duck Dynasty is back and better than ever!

Lastly, my newest glass, inspired by a family dinner that im attending tomorrow night.. let me start by saying, Patty is known for her amazing butter fried chicken.. and she accompanies it with peas, mashed potatos, chocolate pie, and pineapple upsidedown cake. Amazing doesnt even begin to describe it! So in honor of her, i made a commemorative glass for the coveted “Friday FRY day”
